We Strive to create an environment for people and Animals To live together in mutual benefit.
We started sketching ideas for BatBnB back in 2016 when we noticed that the threat of a growing mosquito population had been met by the market with pesticides. Lots and lots of pesticides. We knew there were better natural solutions to backyard pest control out there, so we got to work.
Christopher had grown up building bat houses with his dad in Massachusetts, and Harrison’s mom used to incorporate bats into her grade school biology classes. So armed with the knowledge that bats can eat up to a 1000 mosquito sized insects an hour, we set out to learn everything we could about these incredible animals. We learned a few important things that made us confident we were headed in the right direction. First off, bats are increasingly threatened and have been dying by the millions over the past decade due to habitat loss, white-nose syndrome, and wind turbines. They need our help now more than ever. Secondly, we realized that the existing bat house market was flooded with products that were poorly designed for the animal’s needs, were aesthetically unappealing, and also mis-educated customers on proper mounting applications. We confirmed our suspicions by connecting with Merlin Tuttle, a renowned global authority on bats, who agreed that over 80% of the bat houses currently on the market were poorly designed for the animal. With the problem identified, we set out to create the highest quality line of bat houses the world has ever seen — both well designed for the animal, and also beautiful to look at so customers can hang them proudly in their backyards.
Fast forward to today, all our friends now call us Batman, and we couldn’t be more proud to have empowered customers across 47 states and 7 countries to offer safe homes for the bats in their neighborhoods.
